About
Language as technical work
Sprachen Beruf is an independent informational site about interpreting, translation and terminology — treated as a trade with standards, equipment and failure modes, rather than as a talent.
The site is organised into five sections. The pair covers simultaneous interpreting and why the booth is staffed in twos. The second pair of eyes covers translation and the revision step that ISO 17100 makes mandatory. Who decides the name covers terminology. A booth is a specification covers the equipment and where it came from. Three cities covers Brussels, Luxembourg and Geneva, where institutional language work concentrated.
Every piece names the standard, the instrument or the room it is describing, so a reader can check it. Where a piece refers to another, it links to it. The complete list of pieces is on one page: everything, in one list.
The site takes no advertising. The organisations credited in the colophon on the front page support sections of it.
